I2R Vertical Polarimeter

Polarimeters are used for determining the polarization of light and examining the optical activity of chemical substances. Optical activity is a material’s ability to rotate polarized light beams and the extent to which such a phenomenon takes place.

This is a simple, rugged instrument that uses ordinary light, not an expensive sodium source. Accurate to approximately 1°, it is popular for both academic and industrial use. At the college and secondary school level, it is used for numerous experiments, including studies of rotation of sugars, mutarotations, concentration of solutions and many others.
